Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

June 11, 2009

On Fox and Friends this morning the debate over Six Days in Fallujah is back in the news.

Joining host Gretchen Carlson are Atomic Games president Peter Tamte, retired USMC Capt. Read Omohundro, an advisor on the project and Tracy Miller, who lost a son in the Fallujah fighting.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

Interesting segment. The host seemed to be pushing for some outrage but the three speakers seemed to have much more level headed goals. Would have like to see more from all of them.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

I would have like to hear more from the mother in the debate.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

I'm shocked. Truly shocked. I have never seen so calm and logical a debate concerning games on mainstream television (apart from G4), let alone FOX! I can almost side with the mother, and certainly see her point. I'd like to hear more, as long as they keep up the calm discussion.

Oorah to all three! Great discussion!

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

The developer should've just renamed it to "Six Days in SomewhereFaristan" and called it a day.

Good job to the three people invited for not falling into the drama trap that the host apparently wanted.

That's why I don't watch the news and especially Fox. All they care about is ratings and nothing gets them like drama and fear mongering.

Well, just stick to MSNBC and CNN. These news don't really bash video game. As a matter of fact, CNN has segements called "Get your game on" where they talk about video game the style of G4 (in a good way, ignore Glen Beck he used to be part of Fox news and he wasnted to bring pieces of it to CNN and make it look bad to gamers). CNN has also let Adam Sessler and Kevin Periera on CNN and they don't seem to be upset about CNN. Stay aways from Fox news, they don't know good politics like CNN do. Same thing for MSNBC, remember Chris Matthews ripped Jack Thompson's ass on his show and disprove that Cho didn't play Counterstrike before he shoot up V. Tech.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

I think you mean to say that Glenn Beck used to be a part of CNN. He is now working for Fox News. Guess CNN realized that he would be more in his element if they let him go for Fox.

Annnnnd, CNN and MSNBC don't?

Was that reply for me?? If it was, I think you've never seen this:

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

I was more so replying to the the previous comment and yeah I have seen all three as I've been coming here since the LJ days, pre-Hot Coffee, you're talking about one issue, videogames. I'm not sure about MSNBC but I know CNN has done its share of attacks on videogames (usually with stock video from games that are now over five years old if not older, I'm sure they still use the old Doom footage too) I'm talking about overall, CNN (especially HLN) has its fairshare of sensationalistic bullshit loving, talking head assholes just as MSNBC does as well. Fear mongering for ratings is not a Fucktard News exclusive.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

That was including CNN and MSNBC but I was singling out Fox because they are the worst IMO.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

Hurray for level-headed guests!

The most spetacular thing is that FOX lost.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

Fox and Fiends should have known to go get You-Know-Who if they wanted anger and outrage. (No, I shall not speak Its name, lest I summon It here.)

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

Has he become like candlejack to us now? You say his name and he shows up?

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

Yes, because despite all warnings, he looks for his name in threads and then does IP workarounds to sneak in and spam the crap out of the site before he gets banned again. He's done it before, he'll do it again.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

You'd think with all that free time on his hands, he'd be able to harass some more legislators or something.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

Wow, I have to watch this. A leveled debate about a game on Fox Noise?

Shit, it is! I have the sudden image of Hitler and Judas Iscariot passing out ice skates! (not godwining, if you can name the book that image comes from you win 10k internets!)

edit: And yeah the host was kinda obviously trying to stir shit up, good for all involved that she wasn't able to.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

She was looking for rage the entire time. The Ex-Marine kept a level head and understood the intent. Then she tried playing the bereaved Mother card, but that didn't work either.

I'm actually more glad that a Mother understands her Sons Death. Come July 22nd, I'm shipping off for the Military myself, and so if the worst was to happen to me, it would be an expected outcome. Afterall, the Military is a dangerous place right? Yet, for some god knows why reason, there are those out there that claim the military is bad because it "Killed their Children/Friends/Family" and that they have a right to bitch about anything bad they dislike because "They have a close family ties to someone who died in the army". It makes me sad to think there are people out there that instead of honoring someones memory, they'll wage crusades against their personal dislikes using their childrens legacy as their reasoning, and the sadder part is it works. So to see a Mother who's more along the lines of "I am sad to see my Son go, but I would still like him honored" is absolutely fantastic to me.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

It would be rather ironic they would say with a straight face that media that can excite you and get you worked up should be banned...

Video games+ higher heart rate= excitement obtained from media = Pundits,TV and film that cause excitement or shake things up should be banned...actually..thats not.......

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

I wasn't a huge fan of the host, but everyone else was fine. But it was just way to short for any real debate.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

In Western Australia, Perth's Channel Nine News had an segment on this game yesterday at around 11.30 yesterday morning (local time). It was fairly balanced and the newscaster seemed to view the game in a much better light than expected, although admitadly I only heard the second half when they were talking to the devs.

Trying to find a video of it atm.

"We never paid any heed to the ancient prophecies... Like fools we clung to the old hatreds, and fought as we had for generations"

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

Um... Huh...

Something weird happens with Peter's audio around 4:35. I see his lips moving, but his voice gets... Scary.

Anyway, other than the host basically trying to start an argument, this was surprisingly low key. For once they didn't get half a dozen people looking to gang up on the one guy they don't agree with.

Can we expect to see more level-headed, quiet debate like this on Fox News in the future? Fuck no. But it was nice for once.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

He was trying to speak through a delay but she was trying to end the segment because they weren't fighitng.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

I was surprised with the balanced report. However, a mother of a soldier just doesn't seem fit to debate. She wasn't in the war itself.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

The mother should still have a say, but I will also have liked for there to be an actual soldier who has been in combat alongside her as well.

What truly got me was the mother's first statement to her response, in that the question (or the answer) is complicated. Most talk shows want to see the topics in black and white and saying something is complicated with no extreme pros or cons must be a talk show host's least favorite thing to hear. The mother was wise enough to know that it's sort of a give and take situation with the game.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

God does Fox ever suck. That woman who was hosting was horrible. Its really great when you have people on who are level headed and don't get into a screaming match or insult contest because it makes the host's attempts at rabble-rousing that much more transparent.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

Great segment! But the host is horrible! My concern is about the credit score of the soldier.. A person's credit score is of vital importance in this day and age. It makes more difference than just about anything else, and according to Suze Orman; Hitler would be redeemable if his FICO score was high enough. However, some things don't affect your credit score as much as others. For instance, your credit score and credit ratings are impacted by credit cards and any personal loan from a bank, and especially if any late fees are assessed. However, payday lenders don't check your credit if you apply for any payday loans. Alternative short term financing doesn't rely on credit scores for eligibility, so keep it in mind that your credit score doesn't come into play with cash advances.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

Forgive me if I'm wrong or if it's been said (I tried to read all the comments), but whats the point when the developer already said they weren't going to make it? Why debate something that's not even being created anymore?

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

The Publisher was the one who pulled out of the project, not the developer... As they said in the video, the developers have 2/3 of the game done and are intent on finishing it. However, without a publisher they lack the funding to do so, so they are looking for a new publisher...

so the game has not been canceled, but put on hiatus until they find new funding

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

After seeing the segment, I agree that all three were very level headed in their discussion. I really liked the mother. And I'll agree with her to just one point. the point where she says that becuase it's a video game, you can have diffrent outcomes. There are games that I have played, that no matter what you do, the outcome is the same. Unlike Chrono Trigger, where your actions can help you choose an ending, The events of the Metal Gear Solid series is like a movie. I remember watching my roomate play Metal Gear solid 2 for the first time and he had gotten to the part where he was guiding Emma to the control room from the Shell 2 core. But on the way there, she is stabbed by Vamp. He was upset that no matter how fast, or as safe as he tried to not to hit Emma as he tried to kill Vamp, the guy managed to stab her, and He was really upset when she died. He even threatened to never play it again. But no matter how you try to play Metal Gear Solid 2, or any game in the series, key characters will be killed off, and there is nothing you can do to change those outcomes.

Six Days in Fallujah could be that way.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

Haha I like how that blonde lady said something at the end and didn't give the publisher guy a chance to try and counteract it.

Re: Six Days in Fallujah Debated on Fox News

I still don't understand all the fuss over the 6 Days game. Does anyone remember Delta Force: Black Hawk Down? I sure do. I personally think it was the best Delta Force game, but that's just me. So are game makers only allowed to make war games based on real events if it's Vietnam or older? Are we not allowed to touch base on current events? DF:BHD was made almost 10 years after the incident. Is that a marker we should go by? I just find it interesting that people won't even give the game a chance before it's even got a playable demo available. Everything is so PC these days, that you can't even say anything remotely off colour lest some group breaks out torches and rakes for a lynching.

This is exactly why we don't see more offerings like Psyconaughts and Okami, because game publishers like to play it safe and stay away from risque things. They are so fearful of public backlash that anything that might be unique or controversial gets put into the incinerator before it has time to settle in. I applaud the company for even considering 6 Days, but I am saddened that because of a handful of the vocal minority is preventing this game from coming to light.

Sigh...
