A few more cryptic details have been issued in regards to the planned “experiential” (not experimental, as previously written [Ed. fail]) videogame theme park and resort Game Nation, first detailed here last week.
A bit of PR contains information on the first of several planned “Districts” to be featured in the park, which will be built in an as-of-yet-undetermined location.
The “Alternet” is promised to loom as “dark and foreboding,” and “will allow you to live your ultimate cyber punk fantasy,” according to the man behind the operation, Daniel Ruke (who goes by the simpler title of RUKE in Game Nation communiqués).
More from the press release:
You enter a cityscape where the darks are darker and the colors are more vibrant, just past the point of reality. With your weapon in hand (machine gun, ninja sword, double fisted handguns), you start to explore the busy downtown. Shopkeepers and citizens are oblivious to your alter-ego. Throughout this world, you have the choice to become a spy, modern warrior, or even your favorite superstar. By completing missions, you will receive clues that will reveal the plot of an underground terrorist group whose sole intent is the demise of the civilians. You will run through missions to collect intel, stop massive structures from being blown up and fight in war zones the size of city blocks.
The most important choice you have is…which side you’re on. You can stop dreaming about it, now you'll be able to live it.
Rukes previously told GamePolitics that sections in the park would be dedicated to themes based around warfare, spacecraft and dragons, and outfitted with "battle arenas."

So, it's gonna be a LARP park?
That's what it looks like...
You'll have to do better than that to convince me it falls under "video game", as opposed to LARP arenas.
I mean, in a LARP, you'll have to designate live action NPCs, aka actors, and require limitations. Violators of those limitations could do some real harm to other players or NPCs as you're talking about melee weapons, not just long range weapons that can be simulated (like lazer tag).
Are we talking about environments simulated on screen or actual built environments? Actual built environments reduce the "video game" effect.
And how long will the players have to actually participate? It sounds like long and multiple missions thrown together for a full story. But, if so, can you stop playing with your "position" saved on the ticket for later play? Is there a time limit for individuals? You certainly couldn't put 100+ players together and expect another 100+ players to stand outside waiting for several hours (although, that DOES sound like your typical major amusement part ride) til they get to play. Unless you're going to have reserved times with time limits.
I sense danger Will Robinson. Danger of fail, Will Robinson!
